Description

"Three clays. Two sacred botanicals. Fifteen ingredients. One Sunday ceremony.

The Turmeric & Sandalwood Purifying Mask draws from one of Ayurveda's oldest skincare rituals — the Ubtan — a purifying paste applied before sacred ceremonies and daily bathing across India for over 3,000 years. This formula is deliberately minimal: 15 ingredients, every one chosen for a specific function. Nothing is decorative.

The triple-clay system purifies at every depth. Bentonite — the strongest adsorptive clay in cosmetic formulation — draws deep-seated impurities and excess sebum from pores through electrical charge attraction. French Pink Clay (Illite) from France provides gentler purification alongside mineralising iron oxide properties. White Kaolin works at the surface without the aggressive stripping that pure Bentonite causes on sensitive skin. A fourth absorptive agent, Magnesium Carbonate, provides additional oil control through a separate mineral mechanism.

Curcuma Longa turmeric root extract — standardised for curcumin — inhibits tyrosinase, the enzyme driving melanin synthesis, while suppressing inflammatory pathways that create post-blemish hyperpigmentation. After the clays have drawn and the turmeric has brightened, true Santalum Album sandalwood oil from Mysore cools and tones the skin as the mask rinses. Rosa Damascena adds its soothing note. Twelve minutes. Seventy-two hours of radiance."

"Clearer, brighter skin in 7 days. 1,100+ verified customers agree."

Key Ingredients

BENTONITE (Triple-Clay System · Layer 1) :-
The strongest adsorptive clay in cosmetic formulation. Draws deep-seated impurities, excess sebum, and environmental toxins from pores through electrical charge attraction.

FRENCH PINK CLAY — ILLITE :- (Triple-Clay System · Layer 2) A premium clay rarely used in mass-market formulation. Gentler than Bentonite, mineralising from its iron oxide content. Purifies without disrupting the skin barrier.

TURMERIC (Curcuma longa) :-
Standardised for curcumin — a clinically documented tyrosinase inhibitor that blocks melanin synthesis and suppresses the inflammatory pathways driving post-blemish dark marks.

MYSORE SANDALWOOD :-
(Santalum album) True Santalum album from Mysore — never synthetic. Cools post-mask skin, calms inflammation, and transforms the rinse step from functional to ceremonial.

What's Inside

Ingredients Ancient botanicals.

Modern science.

1

Bentonite

Bentonite is the most powerful adsorptive clay used in cosmetic formulation. Its mechanism is electrochemical: the clay carries a strong negative ionic charge that physically attracts and binds positively charged impurities — excess sebum, environmental pollutants, bacteria, and deep-seated debris — drawing them out of the pore during the mask period. Upon contact with water, Bentonite swells to many times its dry volume, increasing its surface area and adsorptive capacity dramatically. In Ayurvedic medicine, mineral clays have been used in Ubtan formulas for purification and detoxification of the skin for over 3,000 years. No synthetic ingredient replicates what Bentonite does at the pore level.

French Pink Clay (Illite)

French Pink Clay — Illite — is a premium cosmetic clay rarely found outside luxury formulation. Its pink tone comes from its iron oxide mineral content, which also gives it mild mineralising properties alongside its purifying action. Gentler than Bentonite but more mineral-rich than Kaolin, Illite occupies the middle layer of the three-clay system: it purifies without the aggressive adsorption that can disrupt sensitive skin barriers, while delivering trace mineral replenishment that pure clay masks often strip away. Used alongside Bentonite and Kaolin, it ensures the mask works at every depth of the pore — not just the surface or the deep channel.

3

Kaolin

Kaolin is the mildest and most skin-compatible clay in cosmetic formulation — the surface-level worker in the three-clay system. Where Bentonite draws from deep within the pore, Kaolin refines the skin surface: absorbing excess oils, gently exfoliating dead skin cells, and smoothing texture without the aggressive stripping that pure Bentonite can cause on sensitive or combination skin. It is particularly important for extending the mask's compatibility across all skin types — ensuring the formula purifies deeply without triggering reactive responses.

Turmeric Root Extract

Turmeric is classified in Ayurvedic medicine as a Varnya herb — a botanical whose primary therapeutic action is to bring luminosity and clarity to the complexion. Its mechanism of action on skin is precise and well-documented: curcumin inhibits tyrosinase (the enzyme that drives melanin synthesis, producing dark spots and uneven tone), suppresses cyclooxygenase-2 inflammatory pathways that cause post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and provides antioxidant protection during the mask period. The Ubtan ritual — turmeric paste applied to the skin before bathing — has been documented in Ayurvedic texts for over 3,000 years. It was prescribed for brides the night before marriage specifically for this brightening, clarifying action.

Sandalwood Oil

True Indian sandalwood — Chandan — takes between 15 and 60 years to reach medicinal grade. Santalum album from Mysore is the only variety with documented clinical biocompatibility for skin application. Alpha- and beta-santalol are clinically documented as antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antiseptic. In Ayurveda, sandalwood is a Pitta herb: cooling, calming, the correct botanical response to the heat of active inflammation and post-mask sensitivity. After the three clays have drawn and purified, sandalwood oil cools and tones the skin during the rinse — converting a functional step into a ceremonial one. Its scent is described in Ayurvedic texts as the fragrance closest to the divine.

Rosa Damascena

Rosa Damascena — the Damask Rose — is one of the most valued botanicals in both Ayurvedic and classical perfumery traditions. Its flower oil contains geraniol, citronellol, and nerol — compounds with documented anti-inflammatory and skin-soothing properties that calm post-mask sensitivity. In the mask formula, Rosa Damascena plays a dual role: active soothing agent and ceremonial scent. Alongside sandalwood, it transforms the rinsing step. In Ayurveda, rose is classified as a Pitta-pacifying herb — cooling, calming, and restoring balance to inflamed or sensitive skin.

Magnesium Carbonate

Magnesium Carbonate works alongside the three clays as a fourth oil-control mechanism — but through a different mineral pathway. Where Bentonite uses ionic charge attraction, Magnesium Carbonate absorbs excess sebum through surface-area adsorption. Its inclusion ensures that oilier skin types receive complete sebum management across multiple mechanisms, not just the clay system alone. It also contributes to the mask's texture — giving it the smooth, even spreadability that allows the full formula to contact the skin uniformly during the 12-minute application window.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know

Is the Turmeric & Sandalwood Mask right for you?

  • Oily, combination, or congested skin prone to breakouts
  • Visible pores and excess sebum
  • Post-blemish dark marks and uneven tone
  • Dull, congested skin that needs a weekly reset
  • All skin types including sensitive — no synthetic fragrance, no alcohol
  • Those seeking a weekly Ayurvedic ritual, not just a product

What makes this different from other turmeric masks?

Most turmeric masks use a single clay and a trace of turmeric for marketing purposes. The PRANA formula uses a three-clay system — Bentonite, French Pink Clay, and Kaolin — each chosen for what the others cannot do, purifying at every depth of the pore simultaneously. A fourth absorptive agent, Magnesium Carbonate, adds oil control through a separate mineral mechanism. Turmeric root extract is standardised for curcumin content and included at an active concentration — not as a label claim. The formula contains 15 ingredients. Every one has a specific function. Nothing is decorative.

How long do I leave it on?

12–15 minutes. Apply a generous, even layer to clean, dry skin. Avoid the eye area. Leave for 12 minutes minimum — this is the window in which Bentonite reaches its full adsorptive capacity. Rinse thoroughly with warm water. Pat dry. Follow with your PRANA toning mist and PRANA Saffron Glow serum. The post-mask glow typically lasts 48–72 hours.

How often should I use it?

Once weekly for most skin types. If you have very oily or congested skin, twice weekly is appropriate for the first four weeks, then reduce to weekly maintenance. Do not use daily — the clay system is powerful and the skin barrier requires recovery time between applications.

Can I use it alongside the Saffron Glow Serum?

Yes — they work as a system as per the PRANA ABHYANGA SUTRA. Use the mask on your weekly ceremony night (Sunday works well). On other evenings, apply the Saffron Glow Serum after cleansing and toning. On mask nights, apply the serum after rinsing and while skin is still slightly warm — the open pores allow deeper penetration of the serum's botanical actives.

Is it suitable for sensitive skin?

Yes, with care. Kaolin in the three-clay system is specifically included to moderate the intensity of Bentonite for sensitive skin. No synthetic fragrance, no parabens, no alcohol. The sandalwood and Rosa Damascena oils provide active calming during rinse. Start with 8 minutes rather than 12 on your first use. Patch test on the inner arm first if you have known clay or botanical sensitivities.

Does the turmeric stain skin or fabric?

The formula uses Curcuma Longa root extract — a refined extract, not raw turmeric powder. At cosmetic concentration it does not stain skin. Rinse thoroughly with warm water. Use a dark towel to pat dry as a precaution — Rosa Damascena and turmeric extract can occasionally leave a faint trace on light fabrics if the mask is not fully rinsed.
